March was a mixed bag of low water temperatures and Northerly winds.
Water temperatures dropped into the mid 50’s and we saw some “Cold Kills. .About mid month, temps rose and the fish acted accordingly and began to eat flies, jigs and topwater baits. Lots of slot sized seatrout, some snook and redfish were caught. One family of ten divded into two’s, and fished two trips a day for 4 days. They caught seatrout, snook, redfish and about 10 other species during the week, and all had a great time.
Todd and Orlind had a great day catching seatrout and Redfish. Waiting for pictures!!
Gary and daughter Lyndsey had an excellent day catching Jacks, Seatrout, Bluefish, ladyfish and then jumping two Tarpon… rods were constantly bent, I released over 30 fish in 2 hours…No pictures of flying Tarpon as nobody has a camera ready to go ,, as usual.. One hint when fishing from boat…have a phone ready with camera setting on and be ready to shoot….Would of loved to have had two tarpon jumping 8 feet out of water but….
Tarpon we are seeing are backwater fish with a few early migratory fish hanging around. At present, tarpon fishing is sporadic at best, just have to be ready to make that first cast at all times.
April is off and running with the forecast of some migratory fish on their way.
There are fish in Boca Grande Pass and a few have been caught on deep-dropping crabs.
Backwater fishing forecast is excellent, as higher daytime tides allow more access to backwater creeks, streams and hangouts of bigger Snook and Redfish…
Tight Lines,
